The first time I met David Wise, he was just another 11 year old kid building a little jump on Gunners Knob to do back flips. Now at 21, he’s making a strong showing at the 2012 Winter X Games in Aspen. David placed first in the elimination round tonight – beating out favorites like Simon Dumont, Jossi Wells and Kevin Rolland. David put in a lot of year’s skiing on Clay Beck’s Alpine Meadows Freestyle Team and was always one of the most driven athletes I have ever seen. David’s runs are smooth and technical. Tonight he held grabs until he was below the deck of the pipe. No tap and slap will do for David Wise. You can see the video of tonight’s run here at ESPN.
David will be move on to the Superpipe finals tomorrow afternoon against 7 other athlete’s. Good luck David. We hope this is your year.
Also competing in the games again this year is Alpine Meadow’s (and Squaw Valley’s) Brita Sigourney. A long line of Sigourney’s have been on the Alpine Meadows Freestyle Team, but it is Brita, 22 years old, that has gone big. Sigourney finished with a silver medal in last year’s X Games women’s superpipe. She’s been training hard and is ready for the podium again this year. Brita has also coached for Squaw Valley freestyle teams, so she has some great support from both mountains. Anyone that spends much time in locker room 3 has probably met Brita’s proud parents Thad and Julie Sigourney. We’re all right there behind you Brita! Good luck!
Brita competes at 10 am PST Saturday in women’s finals, while David competes at 11:30 am PST in men’s finals. Catch the event on ESPN!
Hey Andy! As soon as we get some decent snow, Alpine Meadows needs a superpipe! It’s officially an Olympic sport and Alpine Meadows has plenty of great skiers and boarders that would love to see it!

Sierra team members making a strong showing as well. Go Tahoe!
Yeah for Maddie too! She deserves the silver…more later.
