Big blue express really that’s the best name they could come up with. But beyond that I like the snow making adds could have used it last winter though

Just keep it up Andy ! Keep taking away all the stuff I liked about Squaw (runs without signs, the old ticket booth, the Olympic Plaza bar, etc.) and I’ll keep thinking twice about buying another pass. Of all the money spent on improvements so far there hasn’t been one new thing I’ve liked. Could we at least get a lift status board back at the bottom of the mountain that actually tells you which lifts are open and not which runs ! I can’t get to the runs without a lift ! So who cares which runs are open ! I’ll find out which runs are open when I get to the top of the lift !

I guess not this year. They had to divert the money to snow-making after last year. I hope it snows so much they newer use it!

Kick out all the old school owned shops and replace them with an expensive mega ski boot shop and snowboard lifestyle shop? Totally fitted pants and jacket for only $989.95, that’s including your local discount!

Let go of the old. Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past five years you should notice that the ski industry (resorts) is changing. They do not cater to the “local” or the “ski bum”. It is the guest and the family expereance that is bringing in the money that makes it possible for us locals to get early morning powder runs and endless bluebird days.
We do not and can not support the ski resorts. They need to cater to the people who are willing to spend money to keep the lifts spinning for us.
Don’t be a cry baby, be man and go hike if you don’t like what the resorts have to offer.

We disagree and think there is another model, one that supports the local communities and focuses on the other 99%.

I agree. There are other models out there such as the MRA model, but for the most part, ski resorts get their money from families, tourists, and loyal season pass holders that spend money on many amentities, including lockers, parking, food and beverage. There is room for many types of resorts but they have to work economically. It’s a sort of evolution, survival of the fittest. We certainly want and should keep the resort owners and companies in check with the enviornment and the localism, but at the end of the day, they need to make money and hire people. Most of the changes have been good IMO.

I will take a high speed detachable six to the old high camp chair any day of the week. Lots of haters on this site, all I see is some sensible solutions to the lack of beginner and intermediate terrain as well as add in more area for terrain parks with that park pulley which I will assume will access some sort of rail garden. Squaw is doing a good job with these new additions and should get more credit than you guys who just whine about how either you cant access 100% of the mountain or how the mountain gets tracked out really fast for some magical reason.

I think people need to be patient here. Seems to me that part of the reason for not upgrading Red Dog first was that Squaw was trying to figure out the layout for the village expansion. Now that we are getting closer there, they can submit a proposal to upgrade Red Dog. That said it seems like the next lift upgraded will be Hot Wheels at Alpine.

One benefit for advanced skiers will be that the new lift will make it much easier to move between Headwall and Granite Chief.

That’s some back ass thinking to wait to see where the real estate development goes before figuring out where to put the base station of the much needed upgraded lift!

So let me get this straight, KSL pays nine figures+ for Squaw and they are not allowed to build a master plan for the base and mountain for them to make money on the deal? Just remember that the last material lift upgrade that made a difference for Squaw was the Headwall upgrade, and that went in 12 YEARS AGO so its not like previous management was pouring money into the place. Yes of course i would love to see Silverado, Granite, Red Dog, etc upgraded; how about a lift from the base area to the top of broken arrow while you are at, BUT if KSL does not upgrade the intermediate experience, the money is not going to be there in the future to make the upgrades to the advanced lifts.

Back to being constructive, my assumption is the next lifts upgraded will be Hot Wheels at Alpine, then Red Dog at Squaw, then some sort of replacement (six pack, chondola, etc) for KT in relation to the Alpine interconnect.

First actual evidence that Squaw is considering replacing Red Dog. Looks like they are considering a six pack. http://www.placer.ca.gov/Departments/CommunityDevelopment/EnvCoordSvcs/~/media/cdr/ECS/CurrentProjects/current%20projects%2009%2012%20%20%20alpha%20order.ashx
