The footage of the fixed grip chairlift rollback at Gudauri Ski Resort situated in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia is nothing short of terrifying and its extremely fortunate that of the 11 injured, no one was seriously injured and no one died.

“Among the injured are Swedish and Ukrainian citizens. Only two cases need to be monitored. One of the injured, a Ukrainian citizen, broke his hand during the incident, and has a small head injury, while a Swedish citizen is pregnant and feels pain in her waist.” Georgian health minister David Sergeenko

Georgia’s Ministry of Economy has formally requested representatives from the chairlift manufacturer Doppelmayr Garaventa Group to send experts to clarify the reasons for the malfunction:

“Our employees are already on their way to Gudauri. At the moment we have no detailed information.” -Doppelmayr Representive

This is the statement released by Gudauri Ski Resort:

“The Mountain Resorts development company of the ministry of economy and sustainable development has already contacted the company production company to respond immediately to the facts and send them to specialists to identify reasons.

The State Ministry of development of mountain resorts fully compensates for all costs of treatment. The Ministry of the interior has already begun to investigate the incident.”

Agenda.ge reports its currently speculated the cause of the rollback may have been a voltage fluctuation or brake issues.

In the below videos you can see skiers actually bailing out before hitting the bullwheel at the bottom:
