Summit County Sheriff’s Office confirms a skier died at Breckenridge after colliding with a tree Thursday morning.  FOX31 reports deputies were on scene at 9:50 a.m. The skier was taken to the Peak 8 first aid room and was pronounced dead there before making it to a hospital.

The name and age of the skier has not been released and it is not known if the skier was wearing a helmet. The Summit County Coroner’s Office is leading the investigation into the death.

This is the first death at Breckenridge for the 2017/2018 season but the tenth there since 2015-16. Of the ten deaths, three have happened on or near Peak 8. This is the four death at Colorado resorts this season.

Our thoughts and prayers go out the victim’s family and friends. We will update this story as details come in.
