If you go to Hesperus Ski Area’s website you greeted by this simple image:

The small Colorado ski resort has only received 33 inches of snow for the entire season and 9NEWS meteorologist Kathy Sabine has an explanation why.  The La Niña weather pattern which has persisted over the season, has created the polar jets that have been active this winter, brewing storms in the north that roll southeast through Colorado but miss the Durango area.

The snowpack is about half of what it should be at this time year but March and April are historically Colorado’s snowiest months so they haven’t given up on the season yet. Fingers crossed!
