A skier visiting the slopes at Big Sky is dead after crashing into a tree on the Elkhorn Run near the end of the ski day reports NBC Montana.

The man has since been identified by authorities as Matthew Montag. The 37 year-old from Washington D.C. was on vacation, seeing friends when the accident occurred. Big Sky Ski Patrol arrived on the scene and performed CPR on the victim but those efforts proved unsuccessful and Montag was later pronounced dead. In a statement, Big Sky offered its sympathies. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the guest’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
