A mother and her 11 year-old daughter, both German nationals, have died as the result of getting caught in an avalanche in the south Tyrol region of northern Italy reports BreakingNewsLive.net.

When the slide happened, the two were skiing off-piste yesterday at the Belpiano-Malga San Valentino ski area. Heavy snow and high winds prevented an initial helicopter rescue. Ultimately, search and rescue personnel reached the mother and daughter on skis. Shortly after digging out the mother-daughter pair, the child passed away. The mother perished in the hospital later that day.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the victims’ friends and family.
