Every year Forbes sits down and starts in on its Top 10 Ski Resorts In North America for that particular season. During that time, marketing departments from Whistler to Taos sit biting their nails, hoping that their ski area makes the list.

This year is no different and many of the resorts are the same. The Top 5 in particular is almost completely unchanged with the only exception being Whistler Blackcomb. Last year, Whistler was a Top 5 resort but it has since been supplanted by Vail, CO. Telluride was moved from 4th to 5th place this season.

“PAF scores are the product of an algorithm that has been continually honed for nearly a decade. The inputs to that algorithm include a ski resort’s terrain, snow profile (quantity, quality, dependability), town ambience, ease of travel, lodging base, acreage, continuous vertical, plus the personal experiences of the ZRankings crew stationed out on the snow across the continent.” – Christopher Steiner, Forbes Contribtor
