Burgeoning Aerial Skier And Olympic Hopeful Dies In His Sleep

Micahel Lillis, an olympic hopeful in the aerial freestyle discipline, died in his sleep sometime during the early morning hours on Saturday in East Rochester, NY reports The US Ski Team.

Lillis was a beloved member of the US Ski Team who practiced at nearby Lake Placid. He was between training camps at the time of his death. Michael’s older brother Jon was already established as one of the best aerialists in the world while Mike was steadily moving up the ranks.

“We’ll remember him for the pathway he was following and the goals he was beginning to achieve. Our condolences go out to his parents Bernie and Jamie and the entire Lillis family.” – Tiger Shaw, President & CEO of US Ski & Snowboard

US Ski & Snowboard CEO Tiger Shaw commented on the tragedy saying, “we are a family and as a family our entire team grieves for Mikey, his own family and his teammates.”  Authorities have not said what caused the skier to pass away in his sleep.

*Our deepest condolences go out to Michael’s friends and family.
