  • Need 18″ base, tree-to-tree in order to open

Loveland Ski Area has officially dropped out of the #RaceToOpen. And while A-Basin is the race’s official winner, that’s not keeping Loveland from slowing down its snowmaking efforts whatsoever.

In a release issued this morning, resort officials hinted at opening next weekend saying, “we are very optimistic on a opening day announcement sometime next week.”

“Loveland’s snowmaking team typically starts making snow the last week of September in preparation for a mid-October opening. Expert local crews and professional snowmakers from New Zealand work around the clock to ensure Loveland is one of the first resorts to open for the season with a full top-to-bottom run covered from tree-to-tree with an 18″ base.”

As of this morning the snow guns had been moved down to the base area of Mambo and Home Run, where the whale tails are growing by the hour. With lows staying in the 20’s overnight, snowmaking efforts over the weekend should yield big results. Fingers crossed.
