Chris Reubens with a $ line

MSP’s Drop Everything has easily been the most anticipated ski film of the season. That hype was based on a funny trailer that claimed to take the piss out of the ski movie formula that’s haunted the likes of TGR and MSP for nearly a decade.

I just watched the movie and while it’s not as good as I’d hoped, it’s pretty damn decent. As far as the segments are concerned, Markus Eder, Sammy Carlson, and Mark Abma all bring the heat with skiing that is both completely out of our league but still– somehow relatable.

Whether you credit the quality cinematography or the skiing itself, the fun of skiing shines through more so than ever.  Maybe that’s because many of the helicopter follow shots have since been substituted by drones that can get much closer.

On the comedy side, it was both funny and tried way too hard at the same time. Not sure if the ukulele diddy was supposed to make me laugh or if I was to appreciate Michelle Parker’s voice, which to be fair– is damn good. That said, the song blows– big time. Other try too hard moments come when Cody Townsend and wife, Elyse Saugstad combine for a marital segment that is beyond cheese( *we get it, you’re trying to be funny by being lame— old schtick).

Luckily, the film ends triumphantly with an all-time ‘then-and-now’ Squaw Valley comparison that is beyond cool. From ‘Beck’s Rock’ to Schmidiots’ everything comes full circle and then boom– Sammy Carlson finishes out the movie.

This final segment is fucking awesome. Sammy is so controlled and so relaxed, it makes ski schoolers want to completely reevaluate how they ski–and that’s saying something.

*Oh yeah– did I mention I have a huge fucking craving for Avery Brewing now?
