POWDER ALERT MONTANA/COLORADO-WYOMING -10 18 INCHES FOR MANY AREAS OF THE NORTHERN ROCKIES SUNDAY-TUESDAY. COLORADO NABS ITS FIRST DEEP STORM OF THE SEASON.

Cold air and significant moisture is dropping down from Canada late this weekend into early next week. Highlights include northern Montana, north central Wyoming and Colorado especially areas like Steamboat, and Rabbit Ears Pass extending down to perhaps Vail Pass. Northwest flow should favor spots north of I-70 where 9-14 inches are possible by late Monday night in northern Colorado. Areas along or just south of I-70 will see steady snowfall from late Sunday through Monday night with 4-9 inches (Higher amounts possible near the summit of Vail). All mountains of northern and central Colorado will see snowfall with the highest amounts the further north and west of Eagle County. 2-3 inches of snow fell today at the summits of Vail Ski area in looking at webcams.

Montana in a direct hit Monday/Tuesday in areas near Missoula extending into most of the north-central mountains (Whitefish) where 12-18 inches will fall at the summits! Significant snowfall is likely by late Tuesday. The Tetons earn 5-10 inches at the summits with higher amounts possible north of Jackson to the Montana border and the wind river range (9-15).

Remember its low tide to no tide currently so any early tracks could mean no tracks for the rest of the season. Tread lightly as densities will be lowering as the cold core comes through the Rockies early next week.
