So far it looks like Arapahoe Basin has taken the lead in Colorado’s annual #RaceToOpen.

Loveland Ski Area announced today that they are expecting to open sometime “mid-late October” while A-Basin remained quiet as to when they will open. Simply judging from the webcams, A-Basin seems to have done quite a bit more successful snowmaking on their north facing slopes as Loveland continues to blow snow at the top of Chair 1.

“At dawn this morning, the temperature at mid-mountain was 22 F.  The snowmakers had another good session. Getting a September snowmaking start is good. The North facing slopes are still holding snow. The forecast for the week shows a bit of rain and snow. I suspect things will just get whiter as the week goes on.” – Al’s Blog (*Arapahoe Basin)

“Snowmaking started this week at Loveland Ski Area. Loveland hopes to open sometime mid-late October. Who’s ready for ski season?”Loveland Facebook Page

Pure speculation? Definitely but as of now A-bay resort officials have not said a new record opening is out of the question. In fact, snow in the forecast starting today could speed things up considerably. One thing is for sure– ski season is getting closer and closer each day.
