- Loveland holds the record for earliest opening ever in Colorado (*9/30/51)
- Arapahoe Basin is in second (*10/6/09)
The earliest opening for a ski area in Colorado happened back in 1951 when Loveland Ski Area began spinning lifts on September 30th. And although the chances are slim, mother nature is looking to help break some records– maybe.

While the Loveland record will likely remain intact, Arapahoe Basin could have a new record for earliest opening date if their snow-making teams can capitalize on forecasted winter weather throughout this week. That said, we’re not counting out Loveland either– albeit a moonshot.

If Arapahoe Basin can open by Thursday of next week, they’ll have the record. As for Loveland, they’d need to open on Saturday just to tie. Either way, we’ll be skiing soon. EVERYONE WINS!
