A Dutch man has died after getting caught in an avalanche on Thursday while hiking with family in the Berchtesgadener Alps, located in the German state of Bavaria.

The NL Times is reporting that the victim was accompanied by three relatives when he was struck by an avalanche and sent roughly 230 feet down the slope. The victim passed away almost immediately.

The victim’s relatives were later treated for hypothermia but were considered physically okay otherwise. The alps were recently hit by an unseasonably cold winter storm that dumped upwards of 20″ of new in the area. The victim’s identity remains unknown.
