Thanks to Joe Seeds and the good people at CBS Denver for publishing this precautionary story about safely traveling in the mountains. Joe had all the proper gear and a ton of experience (48 successful 14er summits) but he still needed rescue after getting lost at 14,130ft on top of Capital Peak.  Joe kept his composure and was able to hunker down and contact help before getting airlifted by a Blackhawk helicopter.

*Please take every precaution possible when traveling the in backcountry, especially at altitude. Remember to have your cellphone fully charged and a backup battery but ideally a personal locator beacon in case you get out of cell range.  Be safe, be responsible. Remember, if you require rescue you are putting everyone involved in getting you out safely in danger.
