The bodies of two Aspen locals who went missing over the weekend have been recovered from Capitol Peak after a heart wrenching couple days for the victims’ friends and family.

The Aspen Times is reporting that Carlin Brightwell and Ryan Marcil were found dead near the base of Capitol Peak’s north face. Judging by where the bodies were found, Jesse Steindler of the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office believes they must have fell somewhere close to the summit. The 14,137′ peak has already claimed two lives this summer alone.

A helicopter search group spotted the bodies at roughly 2:25pm on Tuesday before a recovery effort returned the two deceased individuals to the Aspen airport. Brightwell and Marcil were beloved members of the Aspen community and they will both be missed.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the victims’ friends and family.
