After being turned down by ski racing’s governing body, 32 year old Lindsey Vonn is proposing a “Battle of the Sexes” ski race a la the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs (King beat Riggs in straight sets).

Vonn attended the French Open as an ambassador for broadcaster Eurosport and spoke with CNN:

“I’ve always wanted to do it. I just want the opportunity, I want to see exactly how I would fare. Training is one thing, but racing is quite another.” CNN asked Lindsey if she had beaten top male competitors before, “Yeah, not all of them, but a lot of them.”

Vonn wants the race to take place during the World Cup in the Canadian resort of Lake Louise, Canada at the end of November.  Known as “Lake Lindsey” when she is in town, Vonn has won 18 out of a total of 77 World Cup titles in the Alberta resort:
“Every Olympic cycle there is definitely more excitement about ski racing and this is a time when we need to capitalize our viewership and hopefully keep more fans tuning in and watching and continue to try to get ski racing on television in the US as well, outside of the Olympics.”
Lindsey has been in touch with Billie Jean King about staging an event where women compete against men at the highest level.  We will stay on this throughout the summer.
If the race goes down at Lake Louise, this is what the men will have to compete against….good luck gentlemen:
