Good news for all you South Lake Tahoe people, The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has notified the public State Route 108 (aka Sonora Pass) is schedule to open today at 2:00pm. The Sierra Sun Times reports snow and debris have been sufficiently removed and preparation for safe public travel is finishing up on the second-highest highway pass in the Sierra Nevada with an elevation of 9,623ft.

Sonora Pass offers easy-ish access for backcountry skiers and snowboarders. Its opening is a welcoming sign for riders looking to get in some secluded spring/summer turns in the Sierra Nevada.

The highway is subject to reclosure if impacted by inclement weather (thats up to Caltrans). Also Caltrans reminds travelers of the truck restrictions recently enacted on SR 108 and advise big rig drivers to continue to use an alternate route.

For the latest road condition information call the Caltrans Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623) also real time conditions are also available online and for mobile phones at HERE.

Check out this jabroni who’s jeep broke down on the pass back in December:
