24heures.ch is reporting a fire broke on Friday around 1:30pm local time at the Verbier Sports Centre in Switzerland’s Valais Canton. About twenty gas cylinders used on the construction site exploded as a result of the heat of the fire and shot debris to up to 500 meters away from the blast site.

The cause of the fire is still unknown but workers were on site at the time and it is suspected that it started during a demolition project. There are no injuries were reported but it is evident that damage was extensive. The skating rink and the “beautiful frame” of the swimming pool were damaged beyond repair.
