“The key is to understand how poison ivy works.” –Jim Brauker Ph.D.

Basically the name of the name is to identify that you have been exposed and understand that urushiol is a greasy oil and washing it off properly and methodically is what will save you from a nasty reaction. Rashes aren’t generally instantaneous so will have little while before exposure and reaction.  Remember to wash thoroughly and to decontaminate any clothing or items exposed to the oil.

PRO TIP: If you are not near running water and soap but know you run the chance exposure to Urushiol Oil, bring along some heavy duty disposable shop towels and mechanic style handcleaner with pumice stone to remove the irritant sans sink.
