“Yellowstone is not a zoo or an animal park. It can be difficult to watch nature take its course, especially when young animals are involved.”

Yellowstone National Park Ranger Joy Guffy caught this life and death struggle through the lens of his camera and shared it on Yellowstone’s Official Facebook page. Here is what he had to say about the encounter:

“A coyote has been staying around Madison waiting for the birth of bison calves. Last week, immediately after giving birth, a cow bison had to defend her newborn calf from a very determined coyote. The cow was worn out from giving birth and the calf was unable to stand yet. The coyote was ultimately unsuccessful, but all three appeared to be exhausted from the interaction.”
