FOX UP reports a retaining wall on the top ramp of a chair lift in the Upper Pennisula was set on fire by vandals causing several thousands of dollars in damage. Luckily the fire died before the flames reached the nearby tower which could have resulted in damages in the hundreds of thousands. A $1000 reward has been issued for information leading to the arrest of the culprits:

“$1,000 REWARD: On the weekend of the 6th & 7th of May vandals burned the top ramp retaining wall on the Copper lift at Mont Ripley. This has cause several thousand dollars of damage and if the flames reached the near by lift, could have caused hundreds of thousand of dollars of damage. We have sustained much vandalism at Mont Ripley in the past and we are aggressively looking for information leading to an arrest of the person or people involved in this stupidity. We are offering a $1,000 reward. Either call Mont Ripley or the Michigan Tech Public Safety office.”

Mont Ripley ski area owned by Michigan Tech University. The damage to the Copper Lift was done over the weekend of May 6-7. Anyone with information is asked to call Mont Ripley at (906) 487-2340 or Michigan Tech Public Safety at (906) 487-2216.
