One resort official has resigned from Australia’s Mt Buller after allegedly using taxpayer funds to take vacation in the United States reports The Age.

A chief executive at Mt Buller, John Huber along with others resort officials misused approximately $85,000 in taxpayer funds to take vacations, issue lavish bonuses, and finance entertainment for family and friends.

The findings come from an appointed investigator, Deborah Glass who condemned such practices saying, “Mt Buller is no one’s personal playground; it is public property.” The investigator’s damning report also included an instance where Huber used taxpayer funds to vacation with his family at a lake house in New York state.

Huber’s resignation comes just after the chairwoman, Jennifer Hutchison’s stepped down in similar fashion after the same investigator found she lived at the public-owned resort in 2014 and entertained family and friends using the facilities for free.
