Liang Sheng-yue, 20, has been found alive after him and his girlfriend, 18-year-old Liu Chen-chun, went missing in the Himalayas. It is being reported that Liu Chen-chun, died just three days before the rescue.

The Taiwanese couple went missing after a snowstorm in the Rasuwa District of Nepal left them disoriented. During the snowstorm the couple fell off a cliff into a steep ravine. There, they took shelter from the storm in a cave.

According to CNN, Liang and Liu were on the Ganesh Himal route, just west of Kathmandu. For ten days, the couple survived off of food they’d brought with them. When there food was exhausted, they lived off salt and melted snow.

Liang Sheng-yue was airlifted to safety on Wednesday morning.Rescuers had very little hope for the young couple after they had been missing for well over a month.

“In our heads, we never thought they would be alive,” said Madhav Basnet, who is one of the three rescuers. “When we found the boy alive, we got scared for a second. He greeted us by saying ‘Namaste.’ He was very happy.”
