After a long battle with liver cancer, snowboarding icon and innovator Noah Salasnek passed away yesterday at the age of 47.

The snowboard community is spending this week remembering Noah, who is largely credited as one of the first snowboarders to combine the freeride and freestyle disciplines. Salasnek started his career in action sports as a skateboarder in the late 80’s with appearances in such skate movies as “Hokus Pokus.”

With the arrival of the 90’s, he soon gravitated towards the burgeoning sport of snowboarding. By bringing his skate style to the mountain top, Salasnek helped create snowboarding as we see it today. His influence on the sport is undeniable and he will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

*Our deepest condolences go out to Noah’s friends and family. Rest in peace.
