Once a sleepy front-range ski area, Eldora is now having to cope with a massive influx of skiers and riders tired of the I-70 shuffle.

Their solution? Build a bran new, highspeed, detachable, 6-pack chairlift of course. In a press release issued earlier today, resort officials indicated that the new and presently unnamed chairlift will replace the Cannonball and Challenge chairs for the 2017/2018 season.

“The new lift comes on the heels of other recent guest facing improvements such as installing Wi-Fi, replacing the domestic water supply, refurbishing lodge areas, updating restrooms and adding three new advanced runs.” – Brent Tregaskis, Eldora GM

The new chair will travel approximately 1,000 vertical feet in 4 1/2 minutes before dropping skiers at an elevation of 10,200′. From there skiers and riders will be able to access to some of the best treed terrain on the mountain. Above all the new lift will increase skier capacity at the mountain, allowing the small ski area to keep up with its growing business.

The new chair is just the first in a series of capital investments to be made by the ski area’s new owner POWDR. Prior to their purchase, Eldora had pursued terrain expansions that were later downsized by The Forest Service following environmental concerns. New runs have since been cut within the resort’s boundaries.
