screen-shot-2017-03-06-at-7-25-35-amThe CBC is reporting that a 33 year old man died in an avalanche in the Callaghan Valley near Whistler, B.C. The incident happened Saturday around noon local time.  The slide happened near Hanging Lake, an area popular with backcountry skiers.  The victim was skiing with a group of 14 other skiers at the time of the avalanche. RCMP along with Whistler Search and Rescue were able to remove his body around 4pm.

Bystanders successfully rescued another skier from a slide near North Vancouver on Hollyburn Mountain on the same day. Avalanche Canada had this to say about the  incidents:

“Two incidents Saturday remind us that a potentially dangerous storm/wind slab remains sensitive to human triggering. Caution and restraint is urged at this time.”
