Fans coming to watch the Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Squaw Valley will get a bit of unapproved messaging in the form of a tagged up billboard reading “SAVE SQUAW STOP KSL.” The billboard is located in Truckee right by the mousehole. Scott Gaffney posted the image to his instagram account. He has been an outspoken advocate of Keep Squaw True, a protest movement to shutdown a massive development project for Squaw Valley.

Best believe supporters of the movement are using the World Cup as an opportunity to get their message out. If you hear cowbell during the races, it might be a protest cowbell. This from Keep Squaw True FB:

“North Tahoe has World Cup fever. And the only prescription is: MORE COWBELL! Sierra Watch is fired up for the World Cup at Squaw Valley this weekend. And we’ll be handing out cowbells to cheer our athletes and celebrate our skiing heritage. Come find us at the East Entrance of the Village and help make some noise!”

I wonder how many of these people drove past that sign on their way to the opening ceremonies:
