Sun Valley is closed following a recent winter storm that dumped upwards of 28″ of heavy snow on Bald Mountain in the past 72 hours.

The closing comes on the heels of Teton County Commissioners issuing a ‘State Of Emergency’ for Teton Village in Jackson Hole and shows just how much heavy snow the northern rockies have received over the past week.

The Sawtooth Avalanche Center is recommending that backcountry travelers avoid all avalanche terrain until the snow settles, bonds, and danger decreases.

Avalanche Warning (Wood River Valley)

An AVALANCHE WARNING is in effect through Friday morning. The combination of rain, heavy snowfall, and strong winds is creating extremely dangerous avalanche conditions. Large natural avalanches are certain to occur. Stay off of and out from underneath slopes steeper than about 30 degrees. Avalanches may impact recreational trails, roadways, and structures in the valley floors.
