50 year old window washer, Jon Henry, was killed Friday by massive 700lbs chunk of ice that fell on him while he was cleaning the windows of a home in Park City’s Old Town district. The ice chunk hit him in the head. He suffered major head trauma from the impact and was pinned under the snow when rescuers arrived:
“We’re not sure how long he was there before he was found. It was probably about 45 minutes.” -Park City Deputy Fire Chief Bob Zanetti
Dessert News Utah reports firemen had to use sledgehammers to bust up the ice to free him. He was airlifted to a local hospital but did not survive his injuries.
Fred Gordon of the Utah Avalanche Center warns that “roofalanches aren’t an urban myth” and advises to stay away from stay away from areas where potential roof slides could occur because they are “super unpredictable.”
