screen-shot-2017-02-06-at-10-37-44-amEight months after a severed foot was found inside a boot at at Eldora Ski Mountain Resort, the Boulder County Coroner can not determine the cause of death as reported by Coloradoan.com. The foot has been identified as belonging to 83-year-old Ervin Mettler. Mettler’s ID card was found on scene and his identity was later confirmed with dental records but the cause of death remains a mystery.

The boot was first discovered June 1, 2016 by an Eldora employee in the resort’s parking lot. A trail runner later found the rest of his remains about a mile from the resort’s lake near where it is believed Mettler had been camping.

It is unknown how long the remains were on the hillside before their discovery but investigators think it was at least several months judging by the weathering.
