WATCH: The First Rule of Ice Climbing Is "DO NOT FALL"

Even minor falls can turn severe when the face you’re climbing falls with you and your climbing partner’s feet look like Wolverine’s fists. Happy that Will Gadd was okay after this. He wrote an extended article with 12 tips for ice climbing falls that you should read HERE if you are interested in the sport. This is an excerpt from the article:

“Note the ratio: about 2:1 for lead falls on ice that resulted in injury versus non-injury. That ratio alone should tell us all we need to know about falling off on ice climbs.
