Report From Powderchasers.com

“THE ATMOSPHERIC RIVER THAT WILL SLAM CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK IS AIMED FOR THE TETONS ESPECIALLY SUNDAY NIGHT, AGAIN MID WEEK AND PERHAPS THROUGH FRIDAY”  “SEVERAL STATES IN THE ROCKIES WILL BENEFIT BEGINNING SUNDAY AND LASTING THROUGH THE END OF NEXT WEEK” Powderchaser Steve

TETON SPECIFIC FORECAST:

There are 3 systems that are going to impact the Tetons this week.  Total snowfall through the midweek period will be in the 20-30 inch range with higher amounts likely to build through Friday.  The first comes in Saturday night with cold temps and 2-4 inches of snow for lift opening on Sunday.  Moderate snow will be falling through the day as temps slowly rise late.  Expect storm ski conditions and another 3-6 during the day. “I think mid day or last chairs or tram on Sunday can be really good especially with the lighter density snow and totals in the 5-9 inch range.

Sunday night/Monday  Lots of moisture streaming in with SW flow (System is aimed from northern CA through the Wasatch and up to the Tetons).  6-10 inches will fall Sunday night and continue heavily through Monday afternoon (Additional 4-7 during the day).  The caveat is warming temperatures Sunday night (25-27 at upper elevations and near or slightly above freezing at the bases) will raise snow/water densities considerably from the light snow that falls on Sunday. “upper elevations could be epic smooth with deep pockets from wind loading” “Lower elevations might become sticky so get the Fatties out to surf the bottom” Avalanche mitigation on the mountain will be in full force Monday morning with strong SW winds. Expect some delayed or limited openings!  Temps begin to cool during the day Monday as a cold front approaches from the North and improve quality by late in the day (Light to moderate lower density snow). snow may taper somewhat late Monday.

Tuesday/Wednesday-
A  break is likely Monday night.  Moderate snow returns Tuesday with good quality (Colder) and another 4-9 inches during the day.  Snow will taper late in the day.  Snow will redevelop Wednesday morning under westerly flow (Good wind direction for decent quality and high amounts along the Tetons).  “Storm ski through last chair or tram Wednesday and you wont be disappointed.” Amounts by late day Wednesday will be getting deeper.

Models currently show around 30 inches (Totals Sunday-Wednesday evening) by mid day Wednesday.   Snow should continue to fall under westerly flow Wednesday night into Thursday (Additional moderate or heavy amounts are likely).   “I would not be surprised to see 4-5 feet of snowfall this week by late next week with perhaps higher amounts at upper elevations”

Do I see an end in sight?  Perhaps a break happens by late Friday or early Saturday as the models are not very reliable beyond 5 days.
