First of all, this all comes as a gut wrenching blow to the Squaw Valley community, the brother and sisterhood of ski patrollers, and the ski community worldwide. Our hearts go out to Olympic Valley resident and Squaw Valley Ski Patroller, Joe Zuiches’s family and friends.

Joe Zuiches is survived by his infant son and wife. A GoFundMe.com has been set up and we highly suggest you contribute HERE.

“Joe Zuiches, a 42 year-old resident of Olympic Valley and a member of the Squaw Valley professional ski patrol since 2012, was killed in a fatal incident at 8:35 AM this morning, prior to regularly scheduled operations, during avalanche control activities at the top of Gold Coast Ridge at Squaw Valley.

The team at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends affected. Joe will be survived by his wife and infant son. Make a charitable donation to the Zuiches Family today.”

Contributions are pouring in attached with heartfelt sentiments like that of Squaw Valley skier Neil Tong: screen-shot-2017-01-24-at-7-58-58-pm
