An Austrian man is lucky to be alive after being rescued by an avalanche dog in the Westendorf region of the Austrian Tyrol reports The Local.

The 19 year-old victim was skiing with a group of friends when they were engulfed in a slide near a chairlift at the ski area. Witnesses on the lift reported seeing the group get caught in the avalanche and in just 20 minutes, rescue personnel arrived on the scene accompanied by their K-9 friend, Asta.
While most of the people involved in the incident were able to dig themselves out of the snow, rescuers employed Asta’s skills to find the fully submerged male. The German Shepherd was able to locate the buried victim in roughly 10 minutes. He was then flow to a nearby hospital where he received medical treatment for hypothermia.
