As Trump prepares to place his hand on the bible, swearing to “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States,” New York State is contemplating creating a trail from NYC to Canada.

Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo just stated during a speech at SUNY Purchase College that he is hoping to develop a massive multi-use trail infrastructure with the help of New York State Parks, The New York State Canal System, and the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. The trail itself is being referred to as The Empire State Trail.

“The formal origins of recreational trail use in the State occurred over 100 years ago when the Legislature appropriated $250.00 for completing a “public path” to the summit of Slide Mountain in the Catskill Mountains, a trail popularized in the early nature writings of John Borroughs.”

The trail system would connect Buffalo, Canada, and New York City by combining old trails as well as creating and connecting new trails to existing ones. The plan hopes to consolidate a complex and confusing combination of trails that fall under different jurisdictions and ownerships.

The end product would be the largest state, multi-use trail in the nation. The 750 mile pathway would cross mountains, waterways, and rolling hills of the great state of New York. The trail is projected to cost approximately $200 million at completion.
