It’s been a few days since the most recent storm dumped 46″ on Jackson Hole but the conditions are sticking around in a major way.

Temperatures have stayed low and there are still plenty of pockets of fresh snow/chalk if you know where to look. I didn’t but was fortunate enough to run into some locals who showed me the goods. North and east facing aspects fared well for most of the day with the high elevation south and south-east aspects getting a little cooked.

The resort saw a big inversion today so while the base was a chilly, the alpine was a perfect 25 degrees (*I’ve always thought that temps in the mid 20’s makes for the best steep snow conditions). A few more bluebird days are in the forecast so soak up that Vitamin D before the snow returns Tuesday. Expect that same inverted weather pattern to continue into MLK Monday.

General Avalanche Advisory
Backcountry riders and skiers have the potential to trigger soft wind slabs formed during the strong storm that impacted the area earlier in the week. Although gaining some strength, these slabs can still be found in very steep terrain at all elevations and will be largest at the higher elevations where wind transported significant snow onto leeward slopes. Do not allow sunny skies to impair good decision-making. Careful snowpack evaluation and cautious route finding are essential today.
