khq-images-worldnow-com12855648_g-c13c6c42d16fe7b0b1751ae947ae3ba1aa04fdc4-720x399A 64 year old Seattle resident was found dead after being buried by an avalanche in the backcountry near Crystal Mountain in Washington state. The skier was known to ski patrol director Kim Kircher who told the Fox Spokane the woman had been skiing at Crystal for 50 years.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, parked her car at the resort’s lot Wednesday afternoon and went ski-touring by herself up a ridge. Two ski patrollers saw evidence of an avalanche Thursday morning and decided to investigate. They found the woman’s hand and backpack sticking out of the snow.

This is a terribly sad situation and a tragic reminder that you never– ever– under any circumstances go skiing by yourself in the backcountry when avalanche conditions exist.
