WATCH: Three Suns Appear On The Russian Horizon In Bizarre Display Of Nature

Captured near St Petersburg, the following footage shows the natural phenomena commonly referred to as the “halo effect.” The three apparent suns are actually just larger, fragmented “sun dogs.” That said, they are rarely this bright.

Sundogs form when sunlight passes through hexagonal, plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus clouds, which act like a prism and refract light, according to a NASA release. Also known as parhelia, they can be seen anywhere in the world, but are most visible when the sun is low in the sky.
