cypress_mountain_overhead_600px-wideSearch operations are set to resume today at 7:30 a.m. for two missing snowshoers in the backcountry of Vancouver’s North Shore according to The Vancouver SunRoy Lee (43) and Chun Lam (64) were last seen Christmas day snowshoeing in the backcountry past Cypress Mountain Resort in West Vancouver.

The search was temporarily called off Wednesday due to heavy snowfall and high winds in the area.  The search as resumed but valanche conditions have the potential of making the search slow going and cautious as conditions in the area will remain dangerous at the treeline and alpine levels. 

The search team weather window so crews can send up a helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera to aid in the search.  North Shore Rescue spokesman Mike Danks is quoted as:

“Wednesday was a pivotal day for the pair, who were not equipped to remain outdoors in the frigid conditions and heavy snow that has fallen since Sunday.”
