According to Independent Record, Tristan Colwell of Helena got lost on Tuesday beyond the Great Divide Ski Area boundary resulting in a search and rescue effort that included ski patrol, local law enforcement, and Lewis and Clark Search and Rescue.

“He was intoxicated and off on the wrong trail, but I give him credit because he did not lose his sense of survival.” – Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton (*Quote courtesy of The Independent Record)

After launching the recovery effort, search and rescue personnel discovered tracks heading beyond the boundary which ultimately lead to the inebriated snowboarder’s location. The article states he was cold but not hypothermic. He was rescued via snowmobile and has since been cited for underage drinking.
