Avalanche news continues to flood in after this past week’s storm and perhaps no story is as remarkable as one involving two friends who’d thought each other had died in an avalanche near Alta reports FOX 13.

The slide occurred in an area commonly referred to as “The Birthday Chute” and appears to have been skier triggered. One of the skiers remained above the avalanche while the other skied below the deposition zone. Both thought the other ski partner had died when they decided to call 9-1-1. Police ultimately utilized a rescue helicopter to recover the man above the slide while the other skier made his way down on his own. Needless to say, the persons involved were happy to see their respective partner made it out alive.
