A Longmont man in his late 40’s passed away Monday while skiing on an advanced trail at Breckenridge Mountain Resort reports The Denver Post. The man, who was ultimately taken to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, has yet to be identified. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“Breckenridge Ski Resort, Breckenridge Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends.” – John Buhler, VP and COO of Breckenridge Ski Resort

The man reportedly suffered fatal injuries after crashing into a tree. This death marks the first fatality of the season for Colorado ski resorts and while the holidays are usually a carefree time of year, people must remain careful while enjoying the new snow, abundant people, and newly opened trails.

*Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victim.
