A winter storm is slowly working its way into the Pacific Northwest and if the current models are correct, the summit of Mount Hood could see upwards of 43″ of snow by the end of the week.

So far, Baker, Alpental, and Timberline are all seeing snow as I write this and the higher peaks in the PNW should have a fresh coat of white starting this time next week. Following that short break, a second round of winter weather should arrive on Tuesday of next week.

Farther west– a frontal system will move inland in the Pacific Northwest today, bringing rain and high elevation snow. Another low pressure system will move onshore in the Northwest on Tuesday, bringing another round of rain and high elevation snows.
This second system will be associated with a deepening upper-level trough, which will gradually lower snow levels across the West as it moves inland. By Tuesday night into Wednesday, snow will become more widespread across much of the Intermountain West and northern Rockies, with rain in the valleys.
