Earlier this week, we forecasted that Zermatt would pick up somewhere around 36″ of fresh snow this upcoming week as a storm barrels towards the southern alps. However, as the storm continues to intensify, we’re upgrading our forecast.

As of 2:43pm MST, Zermatt, parts of south-central Switzerland are set to receive over 100″ of snow by Friday evening. Right now, Snow-Forecast has the Zermatt receiving upwards of 120″ while WePowder.com is currently predicting 96″ at the Swiss ski area with even higher amounts in localized, leeward areas.

The early season storm is all-important for late-season glacial coverage in the higher elevations and could serve as the base for what might become Europe’s best ski season in recent history.
