Little beknownst to TJ Burke, the international association of ski journalists awards a yearly prize to the best skier in the world. The coveted “Skieur d’Or-Serge Lang Trophy” is the only internationally recognized award of its kind and it’s a huge honor– especially in Europe.

The award is named after the founder of what is now considered the modern world cup format. This year, the award goes to the men’s overall World Cup Champion– Marcel Hirscher reports ESPN. Hirscher, who hails from Austria, won the trophy back in 2012 and 2015, making this his third term as“skier of the year.” With this past year’s overall title win, Hirscher became the second man ever to record 5 overall world cup championships.
