Former alpine skiing athlete of the World Cup circuit, Eric Villiard is well on his way to taking his kid-safe collapse proof igloo design to market.
The Canadian father of two wanted to create a product that would make it safe for kids to build snow structures without worrying about the dangers of collapse and suffocation. The answer, a kickstarter campaign for a 17 piece high density polyurethane lattice structure kit that can support over 1000 pounds of snow that comes with a surprisingly reasonable price tag of $136 USD.
The kickstarter project has already exceeded its funding goal of $11,350 with a total of $36,470 pledged and another 47 days left on the campaign.
The igloo measures 5 feet in diameter by 4 feet in height. The kits are being manufactured at a plant in east-end Montreal. According to The Montreal Gazette, orders received before Nov. 30 should arrive before Christmas.
