An 18-year-old competing at a Freeride World Qualifier at La Hoya ski resort in Argentina died yesterday, September 24th.  Elwyn Roy Freeman suffered severe chest injuries after colliding with rocks during a fall. Elwyn was brought to a hospital in Esquel where he succumbed to his injures. 

Elwyn was Argentinian from the town of Trevelin, only 25 miles from La Hoya ski resort.

This year has been a difficult one for the Freeride World Tour community. In addition to the death of  Elwyn Roy Freeman two female competitors, Matilda Rapaport and Estelle Balet also died this year outside of competition.

“ACCIDENTE EN EL FREERIDE WORLD QUALIFIER
El presente comunicado tiene por objeto brindar nuestras más sentidas condolencias a la familia de Elwyn Roy Freeman, quien falleciera esta tarde en el Hospital de Esquel, a raíz de las lesiones ocasionadas por una caída accidental durante la competencia del circuito Freeride World Qualifier, que tuvo lugar en el cerro.
Acompañamos en este difícil momento a sus familiares y amigos.” – La Hoya ski resort, yesterday
