Slippery road conditions lead to this scary crash for Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten. She was out in front on the Vista Chinesa descent in Rio when she went over handle bars. Dutch cycling team manager Johan Lammert said she was unconscious “for a considerable period of time,” when he spoke with USA TODAY Sports. She suffered a concussion and 3 small fractures in her spinal column and is currently in the ICU.
This is a very scary situation that could have been far worse if not for her helmet. Please please please wear your helmets out there boy and girls. It can be the important decision of your life.
